La Maison sur Loire

Maison sur Loire French Country House Plan
La Maison sur Loire as featured in the Winter 2008 edition of Mountain Living Southern Style Magazine.

he Loire Valley region is probably one of the best known and beautiful regions of France.  Extending from the Atlantic coast in the west to Burgundy in the East, fine towns and villages have a distinct character of their own.  The formal architecture with symmetrical facades of fine white limestone and steeply pitched roofs associated with the Loire region reflect the formal chateaux architectural styles of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

La Maison sur Loire evokes the formal style reminiscent of the Loire Region of France with its main house and charming additions.  The symmetrical placement of tall, French doors and arched casement windows give the façade an elegance and grandeur.  A steeply pitched roof topped by copper finials and flanked by tall chimneys and terracotta chimney pots, is the essence of regional architecture.  Our design would be equally appropriate constructed with limestone or a combination of limestone, stucco and brick accents.

The 3,495 square foot floor plan reflects the formality of the exterior with a dramatic central hall and staircase.  The formal living room with fireplace is opposite the dining room across the hall providing an atmosphere and circulation that facilitates entertaining.

The family room features a second fireplace and vaulted ceiling.  With its garden view to the back, covered porch and patio it is an extension of the kitchen so the family may enjoy a casual space that is functional and open.  An adjacent ground floor master bedroom has dedicated access to the covered porch and is easily accessible from all living areas.   At the top of the stairs, one is greeted by an overlook to the hall below.  Three bedrooms, each with their private bath, provide adequate space for family and guests.  A 744 square foot bonus room with half bath above the garage is accessed from the kitchen via its own private staircase.  This would be ideal for a media center, office, game room or fifth bedroom.

Some customers want to use the attached three car garage for living space and elect to build a small carriage house to match the main house.  This can be either attached or detached.  Here we have a very functional garage with work space, storage and ample living space above for bedrooms, office, or any purpose and accessed by an interior staircase.
